Yeah, ok, so I'm a Star Wars geek and a capital ship lover, sue me. The same issue lies in the ISD design and is further exacerbated in the ISD II design (which had literally NO point-defense and even more ship-to-ship combat efficiency). It was designed to take on a fleet of ships, not starfighters. That's why the Death Star had all those turbolasers, but not really point-defense. In short, it was lessons learned from the Clone Wars, but since the Rebel Alliance did not have the resources to build so many large starships, they used mainly starfighters, which the Empire was not actually prepared for. Note that in the Clone Wars, the Republic warships were MUCH more well-rounded, but they were constantly in ship-to-ship combat situations. That's why their point-defense was basically sacrificed. Frankly though, it's a simple explanation as to why Imperial point-defense was so inadequate.īasically the Empire was building their ships to fight other large capital ships, NOT snubfighters. Quality of the fighters is then brought into question though. Having short-range fighters that can deploy on your ship would provide a ready source of anti-fighter capability.
It's been quite a while since my Star Wars trivia days, but I imagine the Tie Fighters were factored in. When the only BBs for this tier were her and Satsuma, the IJN ship did way better statistically. Hannover has the worst gimmick of the Tier XI BBs. But if you do Main Battery Build, then that makes the Secondaries gimmick 100% pointless. WG had a wonderful idea that to make her secondaries gimmick ability stand out, she needs main battery hits, and this ship struggles to make hits in Secondaries Build. Hannover is a War God in Co-Op, but in PVP she's a Clown Car. They melt to HE Spam and 32mm gets Overmatched to hell and back by 460mm+ AP. Patrie is also real good, a "What if Republique and Alsace had a baby?" Offensively I think Patrie is stupendous but the problem with FR BBs is their 32mm armor all over the hull. She fits the meta, and her gimmick of SUPER ACCURACY for periods of a time fits the meta way better than Hannover's. As for the Tier XI BBs, I'd say the best of them is Satsuma.
